The last thing Dr. Maya Blackwood remembered was the smell of burning metal and ozone. She was standing in the middle of a vast, barren wasteland, surrounded by towering structures that seemed to stretch up to the sky like skeletal fingers. The air was thick with an otherworldly energy that made her skin crawl.

As she regained consciousness, Maya found herself back in her laboratory, surrounded by rows of humming machinery and flickering screens. She sat up with a start, rubbing her temples as the memories came flooding back. It had been three years since the accident – three years since Elyria's downfall.

Elyria was a terraformed planet, created by humanity's most brilliant minds to be a new home for the masses. But something had gone horribly wrong. The terraforming process had unleashed an unpredictable force that had ravaged the planet, causing widespread destruction and chaos. Maya had been one of the scientists on board when it happened.

The memories came back in flashes: the screams of her colleagues, the feeling of weightlessness as the planet's atmosphere collapsed, and the sight of Elyria's massive structure – the "Ark" – self-destructing before their eyes.

Maya knew she had to get to the bottom of what had happened. She spent years pouring over the research, trying to understand the true nature of the force that had destroyed Elyria. But every lead seemed to end in a dead-end, and Maya began to doubt her own sanity.

That was when she received the message – a cryptic alert from an unknown sender claiming to have information about what really happened on Elyria.

The message read: "Meet me at sector 7-Gamma-4. Come alone."

Maya's heart racing, she set out for the meeting, her mind racing with possibilities. She had no idea who was behind the message or what they wanted from her – but she knew one thing: she would stop at nothing to uncover the truth.

As she arrived at sector 7-Gamma-4, Maya's instincts told her something was off. The air was heavy with an eerie silence, and the structures seemed to loom over her like sentinels. She pulled out her comms device, but there was no response.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows – a tall, imposing man with piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into Maya's soul.

"Dr. Blackwood," he said, his voice low and gravelly. "I've been waiting for you."

Maya's hand instinctively went to her gun – but she hesitated. There was something about the man's demeanor that seemed... familiar.

"You're not who I expected," she said finally, trying to keep her voice steady.

The man smiled, revealing a hint of teeth that made Maya's blood run cold.

"I'm someone you know," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Someone who has been watching you for a very long time."

Maya's mind reeled as the man stepped closer – and just as she thought she was going to be overwhelmed by her memories, everything went black.

When Maya came to, she found herself lying on a cold, metallic floor. The room was dark, except for a faint blue glow emanating from a console nearby. A single word was scrawled across the screen:

"Elyria's child is coming."

Maya scrambled to her feet, her heart racing with fear and anticipation. What did it mean? And who – or what – was behind this message?

As she turned to face the darkness, Maya realized that she was not alone.

A figure stood just beyond the reach of the console light – a figure that seemed to be waiting for her, its presence as cold and calculating as Elyria's own self-destruction.

And then, everything went black once more.
